Older teens are especially welcome at our discussion of The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh. What will happen when long-time foster child Victoria turns 18 and has to make her own way in the world? It is a story that will stay with you for a long time. Our discussion happens on Tuesday, July 17, at 2 PM. Put your copy on hold today.staffhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14799323217163276910noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1591836566869482393.post-85172528941189141932012-06-11T10:32:00.001-07:002012-06-11T10:32:08.716-07:00Summer Reading for Everyone!

Teen Read Week started in 1998. This year's theme is Picture It @ your library®, which encourages teens to read graphic novels and other illustrated materials, seek out creative books, or imagine the world through literature, just for the fun of it. Libraries across the world celebrate Teen Read Week encouraging teens to read for pleasure and to visit their libraries for reading materials. ala.org

"A subgenre of fantasy and speculative fiction that came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century, and often set in Victorian era England—but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional technological inventions like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or real technological developments like the computer occurring at an earlier date. Other examples of steampunk contain alternate history-style presentations of "the path not taken" of such technology as dirigibles or analog computers; these frequently are presented in an idealized light, or a presumption of functionality."
Local teens will be tuning in at the library as Warsaw Public Library celebrates the third annual Teen Tech Week March 6-12, 2011. They join thousands of other libraries and schools across the country who are celebrating this year’s theme, "Mix and Mash @ your library®.” Teen Tech Week is a national initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) aimed at teens, their parents, educators and other concerned adults. The purpose of the initiative is to ensure that teens are competent and ethical users of technology, especially they types offered through libraries. Teen Tech Week encourages teens to use libraries' non-print resources for education and recreation, and to recognize that librarians are qualified, trusted professionals who can help them navigate new developments in technology.
